Protestant or Catholic?

i'm pretty sure that whether you are one or the other you probably put up a tree in your living room around the middle of december and decorate the house with trinkettes and holly and drink eggnog and exchange gifts... i'm pretty sure that you don't have to be either protestant or catholic to celebrate the time of the year either... i could get into the whole science of how christmas got started but that's not why i am here typing this... i am baffled that according to religious groups they have all agreed that dec 25 is the day that jesus was born the holiest of holy's was born on the holiest of days... and how do we celebrate it by lieing to little children, telling them that there is a magical man called santa and he has magical reindeer and that he gives gifts to boys and girls all over the world... if you want to call your self holy and beleive in jesus christ i'm not sure that lieing to boys and girls is the best route... do all of the catholics confess that they lied when they go to church on the sunday following xmas? i doubt it... you might say that it's a white lie and/or that it's all in good fun... well beleive me... no one enjoys messing with childrens minds more than me... but i usually do it to get outta buying stuff for kids.... not talking out my ass to spend money on toys that they will play with for one day... common

also... what the hell is with the easter bunny? is it really that fun to eat rabbit poop? real rabbits don't poop chocolate... i think the easter bunny is an extreme stretch even for a childs mind... unless it's like the thanksgiving turkey... cause i've always wanted to try rabbit meat... oh and rabbits don't lay eggs... and they do this in rememberance of the day christ died? yep...there is definately something wrong with religion...

i could get into the "great pumkin" or "mr. hanky" but at least they make a but more sence...

i don't know if what i'm trying to say is making sence to anyone but it is wrong to lie to these kids ... they rely on the grown ups to show them the right way. no wonder there are some really messed up people out there... i mean if you can't trust your parents then who can you trust?

Yah mom bought me winter gloves called "Magic gloves", whats up with that? they're not magic. And it isn't just christmas or easter, some kids believe they're the next Harry Potter but could end up being the next Anti- christ, isn't that scary???

Commenting on this topic is pointless....but here goes.

I was baptised Catholic but never went to church. My mom was a practicing Jehovas Witness and never "taught" me any of the practices. We had Christmas and Easter, Halloween (But no Mr Hanky day...never knew that was a holiday now). I have no real religion...but I had a childhood.

As far as Santa and the Easter bunny goes, well, after a *certain amount of time*, childhood myths are dispelled when kids "realize" that its Dad dressed up in a Santa suit putting presents under the tree. Kids "realize" that their parents are doing this to make the "holiday" *magical*. I don't look back at Mom and Dad saying "Those bastards LIED to me!!" I look back and say "Those were good times".

I can remember the people Mom had over who taught her the Jehovas Witenesses practices. They were nice people .. but, they were really strict when it came to certain things. Things that *I* would never have thought would cause a hassle. Celebrating Christmas, with a tree and Santa was always something that happened at my house, but the Jehovah's always frowned on Mom for doing it, saying it wasn't "normal"... normal?

um.... as far as I am concerned, making a child "happy" is normal, right? Feeding their imaginations and fueling their creativity is normal, right? But, is being a facist and saying "Do it this way because THATS the way it is"...is *that* normal?

To some, yes....I suppose.

To me, no.

My daughter enjoys Santas' visit. She also thinks the Easter bunny is "ok" for bringing her chocolate. She thinks the tooth fairy should get a raise for flying all over the world, exchanging teeth for toonies and she believes in pirates and spacemen and unicorns and ALL sorts of make-believe, imaginary things. Things that will make her life more interesting, give her mind something to delight with and something to expand her intellect. One day, she'll realize that its me in Santas clothing and that the Easter bunny doesn't "really" poop out chocolate eggs. But for now?...she's happy....thats ok with me.
